In 1999, Halifax inaugurated a Canadian Immigration Museum at pier 21 to show the contribution to the immigrants to Canadian society. Right after world war 2 most of Canada's immigrants came from Europe. Until 1971 where most of Canada's main source of immigrants is no longer Europe, but all over the world. Pier 21 was mainly getting immigrants that came by ship. After 1971 most immigrants didn't come in by ship but by air. Not many air planes landed in Halifax, instead in Toronto's Pearson International Airport.
